Ernie Sims

latest news about Ernie Sims: Ernie Sims is a Philadelphia Eagle and the Denver Broncos have an extra draft pick after a three-team trade went down in the NFL on Monday morning.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting (via PFT) that the first three-team trade of this offseason involved the Lions sending Sims to the Eagles, who then gave an undisclosed draft pick to the Broncos, who then shipped Scheffler to the Lions. UPDATE: The Broncos will get a fifth-round pick from the Eagles. Denver will also send a seventh-round pick to the Lions.

Scheffler was a restricted free agent who signed his tender last week, and the Broncos started shopping him right away. It was believed that the Broncos wanted to get a third-round pick for him, so only getting a fifth-round pick while giving up a seventh-round pick has to be considered disappointing.

The winner in this deal would appear to be (surprise) the Lions. Scheffler wasn’t always happy in Denver, but he grew up in Michigan and played his college football at Western Michigan, and he should be pleased to be going back home. He also should be a good fit in the passing offense that the Lions are trying to build around quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
